Does Vaulta store my vault items or transactions on a remote server?
No. Vaulta is built with a zero-knowledge, offline-first architecture. All your vault items, documents, cards, passwords, and Penny Flow financial entries are stored locally on your device in an encrypted Hive database.
How does the on-device OCR scanner work without the cloud?
Vaulta uses Google ML Kit's local on-device machine learning model. When you scan an ID card or document, the image is processed inside the device's application sandbox and discarded or saved only in your encrypted vault. No photos or text are ever transmitted to external servers.
How does Google Drive backup protect my privacy?
Google Drive backup uses the restricted appDataFolder scope. Vaulta cannot access your general Google Drive files, and other apps cannot access Vaulta's folder. Most importantly, the entire backup file is encrypted on your phone using your master key before being uploaded.
What happens if I forget my master PIN?
Because Vaulta uses zero-knowledge encryption, there is no master backdoor on any server. If you lose your PIN and cannot authenticate via biometrics, you can restore your data using an encrypted .vaulta backup archive and its encryption passphrase.
